World Meeting of Families 2015
In 2014, Neilson Carlin was commissioned by the Archdiocese of Philadelphia to paint an image of the Holy Family for use during the 2015 World Meeting of Families. Over the course of several months, he worked under the guidance and supervision of The Most Reverend John McIntyre, Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, to create the iconic image. The painting was unveiled by Archbishop Charles Chaput on September 7, 2014 at the Cathedral Basilica of SS Peter and Paul where it remains on permanent display. The painting was blessed by His Holiness Pope Francis during the cathedral Mass on September 26, 2015 during the meeting. Neilson said he was “humbled by the opportunity to use my talents to serve the Church and my fellow Catholics at such a tremendous convocation.”
